(Carson City, NV; March 26, 2014) – Secretary of State Ross Miller reaches a settlement agreement with Alliance for America’s Future (AAF) resolving an enforcement action he filed against the Virginia nonprofit corporation that began during the 2010 election cycle. The settlement resolves all remaining issues in the case including AAF’s 2013 appeal.
AAF agrees to the following provisions in the settlement agreement:
- Pay a civil penalty of $40,000
- Dismiss its appeal filed with the Supreme Court
- Register as a Committee for Political Action (PAC)
- File three Contributions and Expenditures (C&E) reports from 2010 covering the full election cycle (January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010)
Miller first filed the complaint in 2010 with Nevada’s First Judicial District Court after AAF spent more than $200,000 running political ads but failed to comply with state disclosure laws. In November 2013, the First Judicial District Court ordered AAF to provide the disclosures and to pay a fine, an order which the group appealed.
