(Carson City, NV; February 9, 2010) - Secretary of State Ross Miller today reminded individuals running for certain offices in 2010 to schedule a time to visit his Carson City or Las Vegas office for purposes of filing their Declarations of Candidacy. The Declarations must be filed between 8 am March 1 and 5 pm March 12.

Candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. Congressional District 2, all statewide offices, and state senate, assembly, board of regents and board of education seats that cross county lines file their Declarations of Candidacy with the Secretary of State’s Office. Candidates running in districts located wholly within a single county file their Declarations with the county clerk/registrar or, for municipal races, with the city clerk.

Candidates who file Declarations with the Secretary of State’s office will receive a complete packet of information, from how to properly file contributions and expenditures reports to how to legally place political signs along state highways. Candidates must pay the corresponding filing fees, ranging from $500 for the U.S. Senate race to $0 for the University Board of Regents (payment must be by cash, certified check or cashiers check; under state law, personal checks and credit cards can not be accepted).

Candidates are asked to call the Elections Division at 775-684-5705 to schedule their appointments during regular business hours between March 1 and March 12. Candidates will be scheduled on a first call – first served basis and Elections Division staff will do their best to accommodate individuals’ schedules. Candidates who drop in to file without an appointment may have to wait until the filing officers are available.
