Non-Partisans Outpace Major Parties in Post-Election Voter Registration

(Carson City, NV; January 5, 2011) – Nearly half of all voters who registered in the month of December chose not to be affiliated with either major party. Of the 1,161 additional active voters, 588 registered as Non-Partisans, 293 as Democrats, and 47 as Republicans. The remainder registered as members of the Green, Libertarian, Independent American or other minor party. According to Secretary of State Ross Miller’s office, a total of 1,153,178 Nevadans were registered as active voters as of December 31, 2010.

That number is down 84,691, or 6.8%, from the 1,237,869 active registered voters in the month following the 2008 General Election. There are 57,370 (10.5%) fewer Democrats, 21,248 (4.8%) fewer Republicans, and 6,928 (3.7%) fewer Non-Partisans.
