NEVADA VOTER REGISTRATION TOTALS THROUGH END OF DECEMBER, 2008 SHOW SLIGHT DECLINE DUE TO LEGALLY REQUIRED MAINTENANCE OF REGISTRATION LISTS
(Carson City, NV; January 5, 2009) -- The total number of registered voters in Nevada as of December 31, 2008, as reported by the office of Secretary of State Ross Miller, dropped slightly from the November, 2008 total due to legally required maintenance of the voter registration rolls. Nevada Revised Statute (NRS), 293.530, and the National Voter Rights Act (NVRA) Section 1973gg-6(d) specify the procedures for maintaining voter registration rolls.
The December 31, 2008 statewide rolls show 1,363,640 registered Nevadans (active and inactive), compared to 1,448,719 at the end of November, 2008. The difference of 85,079 is attributed to the mandated maintenance of the registration lists at the county level.
The complete registration figures are available on the Nevada Secretary of State’s website at http://sos.state.nv.us/elections/voter-reg/.
