Contact: Robert Walsh, Deputy for Southern Nevada
(Carson City, NV; Sept. 7, 2011) – Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller today announced the hiring of Catherine Lu as Public Information Officer (PIO) for the Secretary of State’s office. In that capacity, Lu will be responsible for communication with the public and dissemination of information regarding The Secretary of State’s various divisions, including Elections, Commercial Filings, and Securities. Deputy for Southern Nevada Bob Walsh will continue to act as the primary point of contact for direct media inquiries.
“I’m very pleased to have Catherine as part of our team,” said Miller. “She worked closely with my office during last year’s successful U.S. Census outreach campaign, and her work as part of that effort was outstanding. We look forward to having her apply her communication skills to everything we’re doing in my office.”
Lu was most recently an account executive as the Ferraro Group, a statewide public relations and public affairs firm. From 2005 through 2011 she worked extensively with a variety of industries on marketing campaigns. Prior to joining The Ferraro Group, Lu freelanced for several news publications and interned at National Public Radio-affiliate KQED-FM in San Francisco, California. She began her communications career as co-editor of the Las Vegas Review Journal’s first annual teen section, R-Jeneration.
Born and raised in Las Vegas, Lu received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications and a minor in Asian American studies from the University of California, Berkeley in 2004.
