(Carson City, NV; March 1, 2012) — Following redistricting, Secretary of State Ross Miller has issued Interpretation No. 12-13-01 to address candidates using the term “reelect” and implying incumbency if running for the identical office with the same district number.

The statutes dictate that “pursuant to NRS 294A.330 and 294A.340, a candidate seeking election may use the term ‘reelect’ or otherwise imply incumbency in any material, statement or publication supporting the election of a candidate provided that the candidate was elected to the identical office with the same district number in the most recent election for that office.”

Secretary of State Interpretation No. 12-13-01 can be downloaded here or under “Announcements” on the Secretary of State’s website at www.nvsos.gov.
