(Carson City, NV; June 7, 2017) – Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske reminds all 2017 candidates for municipal elections that the deadline to file Contributions and Expenses (C&E) Report #4 is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017. All C&E reports must be filed electronically through the Secretary of State’s Aurora campaign finance disclosure database. Failure to file a C&E report by the deadline carries a fine of up to $5,000.
C&E Report #4 covers campaign contributions and expenses from May 20 to June 8, 2017. Every candidate who filed to run in a municipal election must report all contributions and campaign expenses in excess of $100 and multiple contributions from a single contributor that cumulatively exceed $100. Every candidate must also report the aggregate total of all contributions and campaign expenses of $100 or less; however, candidates are not required to itemize these contributions and campaign expenses.
Filing deadlines for the remainder of the 2017 election cycle are:
January 16, 2018 - C&E Report #5 (for the period of June 9 to Dec. 31)
Every 2017 municipal candidate is required to file a C&E Report and is not exempt even if he or she: (1) withdraws his or her candidacy; (2) ends his or her campaign without withdrawing; (3) receives no contributions; (4) has no campaign expenses; (5) is not opposed in the election by another candidate; (6) is defeated in the primary; (7) is removed from the ballot by court order; or, (8) is the subject of a petition to recall and the special election is not held.
Aurora provides instant notification of filed or amended campaign finance reports. If you would like to receive an e-mail notification when a candidate submits or amends a report, choose the “Follow this Candidate/Group” option next to the individual’s or group’s name.
